As already noted we reached Pochutla, Oax on the eve of Mch. 8th. This town is an insignificant place with a few small stores grouped about a small bare plaza. The town like the rest of these along the coast is built of the rudest kind of houses without an attempt at neatness or ornament of any kind. The barest adobe and mud plastered wattles for walls of the best houses which have tile roofs & the cage-like walls of grass - thatched jacals scattered about irregularly with lovely surroundings that lack even a kind of picturesqueness[[?]] Pigs, dogs, & poultry with stray burrows & other animals make
