a jacal owned by a Chilian who keeps a kind of local hotel here. Puerto Angel lies about 8 m. S.W. of Pochutlas The port is a small bay enclosed on 3 sides by rocky hills which afford good shelter by the bay is so small that large steamers do not venture to enter owing to the rocks about the entrance. Once inside the bay is deep enough but so small that a steamer has hard work to turn safely. The hills rise abruptly from the shore 200 or 300 ft. & then rise rapidly to ridges 500 to 900 ft. high that lie between the sea & Pochutla Between Pochutla & the coast, not far from the town, is a limestone ridge in the midst of the granite rock that formes the country hereabouts.
The Port has a small customs warehouse & couple of other small houses belonging to the shipping agent here & with a few scattered jacals along the lower slope of the hills bordering the narrow strip of sandy beach make up the town. The Chilian with whom we stopped was clearing some land to plant corn & complained of the laziness of the men he had to hire.
