In the val. of Oaxaca the mayordomo is chosen annually and is the master of the town or village. The former mayordomos & one acting meet just before the day of the festival of the patron saint & decide who they think should be the next mayordomo. Then they go to his house & notify him & if he gives his assent the choice is made- Just before the Saint's day is the day of the candle working [[strikethrough]] at which [[/strikethrough]] the mayordomo buying a supply of wax & all ex-mayordomos join in helping make candles to use in the masses said on the saint's day- The priest is also paid for this by the m-d-.
