The bar is said to have from 12 to 13 ft. of water now- On the top of the [[strikethrough]] sand [[/strikethrough]] grass grown sandy ridge that lies between the town & the gulf, & upon the landward slope of which part of the town is built, are the finely built wooden buildings of the cable company where the operators live, some with families & some without, but all of them young fellows out from England. The cable comes up the Pacific side to near Salina Cruz & then crosses the isthmus. [[strikethrough]] I [[/strikethrough]] There is a station near the Coast below Tehuantepec, another at San Geronimo, one near La Puerta & another [[strikethrough]] between [[/strikethrough]] at Santa Lucretia besides that at Coatzocoalcos. Situated on sandy soil high enough to be well drained and swept by the gulf breezes this place should be tolerably healthy for a tropical town- From the low ridge at the edge of town which rises 75 or 100 ft, one has a fine view over the gulf and over the great forested lowland plain that forms a broad coast belt. The [[strikethrough]] supt [[/strikethrough]] mgr of the R.R., Mr. Coppock is an American. He kindly gave me a pass for a round trip & agreed to duplicate it... The road is still in a half finished state & lacks rolling stock. No first class tickets can be sold as they only have poor second class cars.- New engines are being set up but
