centre about which the vivid flashes of lightning gave added beauty to the fine cloud formation- The immediate approach of the rain was heralded by a cold wind that rushed soughing down the wooded slopes. Then fell a short calm and the steady roar of the approaching rain on the forest leaves crept swiftly nearer & the black clouds swept out over head with flying storm scud in advance & then came a few drops of water followed by a [[strikethrough]] pr [[/strikethrough]] heavy downpour that quickly started a turbid torrent in every little drainage way. For an hour or so these showers would last amid flashing lightning and crashing thunder then they would pass on and die away with the thunder gradually becoming indistinct on the horizon and a cool fresh air made a grateful change from the heat before. At night these showers were specially picturesque but were rather uncomfortable in our open house into which drifted a heavy spray from the beating drops outside -
