This decision has rather startled people on the Isthumus & was the cause of one land purchaser breaking off his negotiations at once and leaving the country for Guatemala. In Tehuantepec City it was common talk that this decision was mainly intended to rack Thos. H. Woolrich who was shown some years ago to have given active encouragement to the Imperialists during the French intervention. 
About San Juan the Coelogenys, Dasyprocta Coassus and other mammals of the Gulf Coast appear with the birds also of that region. Lagunas & Santo Domingo are near the dividing line of the faunae of the two coasts. A few miles to the East of San Juan the hills descend rapidly to a narrow [[strikethrough]] open [[/strikethrough]] plain which lies at from 350 to 500 ft. & forms the northern extensionor arm of the plain of Chirela[[Chietla]]-
In hollows, on hill slopes & along sides of shallow canons is a strong forest growth but all of the more level parts are open grassy prairies - The R.R. stations of the Ferro Carril Interoceanico del [[crossed-out]] [[?]] [[/crossed-out]] Ismo de Teh. called MogoƱe and Palomares are here. This part of the Isth. is also known as the plains of [[Saracia?]]. Corn, Sugar Cane, beans, rice, & Tobacco are grown here

[[Teh.?]] - Teh. is likely an abbreviation for Tehuantepec, nearby city
