burned in the road in order that the child may be fortunate in its traveling.
When a man buys a horse, or mule he leads it out is the border of the llano where he wishes to keep it and there burns some pine leaves with pitch and cuapinol incense. Then he makes an incantation to propitiate the spirits and turns the animals loose.
The first 3 animals such as deer, peccary , Dasy fracta or or Calogenys killed by a yg. Hunter must be given by him to be eaten by his friends and he must not touch a [[morsel?]] of them,. The skulls from which all flesh has been removed must be taken by him to the top of a low rock - capped hill close to town. & then he must place the skulls [[crossed-out]] with [[crossed-out]] on a rock & build a fire of pine needles burning pitch & Cuapinol gum and making a prescribed incantation when the skull is placed with others of its kind that have accumulated there. When he has added his third skull to the heap he is privileged to eat his own [[gauge?]]. I visited this deposit & saw the traces of fire and great numbers of skulls of the animals named some so old that they were crumbling to powder and others quite fresh The spot is just above & in full view of the town.
