Articles of agreement made and entered into this twenty first day of February 1867 between Captain Geo Lancaster 17th US Infantry Sub Assistant Commissioner Bureau R F and A.L. of the one part and L H Hammond of the Town of Hempstead County of Austin in the State of Texas of the other part.
This agreement [?] that the said Sub Assistant Commissioner for and on behalf of the United States of America, and the said L H Hammond have mutually agreed and by their presents do mutually agree to and with each other as follows,
1st The said L H Hammond shall furnish all necessary labor lumber nails &c for the repair of a certain building in the Town of Hempstead Texas known as the Freedmans Church to be used as a Freedmans School Hense, the work to be done in a good substantial manner to the satisfaction of the Sub Assistant Commissioner.
