This indenture made this twenty-seventh day of March 1867 by and between the United States of the first part and S. Loomis and E. Christian copartners under the style of Loomis and Christian of Austin of the second part.
Witnesseth. That the said Loomis and Christian for and in consideration of the Covenants herein contained, do promise and agree, to fit up the building in the City of Austin known as the Foundery, as a School house as follows, to put up two partitions of boards ten feet in heighth, one at the distance of fifty five feet from the westerly end of the building and the other midway between that and said westerly end. To make and hang with suitable fixtures, a door 3 1/2 feet in width in the middle of said last mentioned partition and to make a similar door in the outer wall of said building so as to afford a passage to the Easterly room from the outside

To make and put up twenty four desk 9 feet in length according to the place hereto annexed and Eight seats 9 ft in length, without backs, suitable for small children. To make two box desks for the teachers 2 1/2 feet square and two blackboards 3 ft by 5 ft.

The whole to be of good materials and done in a workman like manner. And the United States by its Agent, James Oakes Bvt Brig Gen U.S.A. Sub Asst Comr Bureau R.F and AL in consideration of the above services agrees to pay to the said Loomis and Christian the sum of four hundred and twenty eight dollars U.S. Currency on the completion of said work.
