This agreement made this (16th) Sixteenth day of May 1867. by and between The United States of America acting by A Doubleday Bvt Major Genl. and Sub Asst. Comr. BRF & AL at Galveston Texas thereto authorized of the one part and Warren N. Mudd Mechanic resident of Galveston of the second part witnesseth

That for & in consideration of the sum of {$45.00} Forty Five Dollars to be paid by the party of the first part to the said party of the second part the said party of the second part agrees and binds himself. To repair four benches & four desks & to put two foot stools 10 ft. & 6 in. in the room for the use of the younger Scholars at the African Normal School at Galveston Texas and to put two new seats in each outhouse & place a new door on each outhouse with serviceable locks & keys and to deliver the said benches desks footstools seats doors locks and keys in and about said School house all finished in a neat & workmanlike manner on or before the Third day of June 1867.

And the said party of the first part agrees & binds himself or itself on the completion & delivery of said work according to contract to pay to the said party of the second part the agreed sum of {$45.00} Forty Five Dollars.
