Austin. Jan 23d 187
At La Grange I found that two citizens of the place, Mr Ligon and Mr Nat Faison had offered to furnish lots gratis for the erection of a church for the freedpeople; the church to be used also as a school house. The colored people have already raised $80.00 specie for building purposes, and in addition, citizens of the place, and freedmen have subscribed $200.00 towards building the church.

La Grange. Texas. Feb 2d 1867.
Some time since the Freedpeople started a subscription for the purpose of building a school house.
They have about $80.00 in money, and about double that amount subscribed - conditionally - that is, provided the building is built. A lot is also offered, free of charge.

When Gen Kiddoo was there, he promised our freedpeople that if they would raise $100.00, he would assist them in rebuilding their church xxxx They have raised and deposited in my hands the requisite amount. Will the Bureau give them a free school?

Marlin. Texas. Feb 28th 1867.
The Chambers Estate, through Capt Chubb, Ex, has offered land and logs to build school houses, one in Marlin, and two on their large plantation. I am looking for Mr D.T. Allen, A.S.F.S. to visit this place, that I may arrange with him to fit up these buildings. Those on the plantations the freedmen will put up, leaving the Bureau to put in windows, doors, floors &c.

Bastrop. Texas. Feb 28th 1867.
I think a good school can be established here if a building can be obtained. The Mayor will give a lot to build on.
