Indianola. Texas. April 2nd 1867 I am offered the lease of an entire block of city lots for five years, free of rent, if I will have a school house built upon it. The Freedpeople here will erect the building if the Bureau will furnish the materials. The probable cost will be four hundred ($400.00) dollars, and I would suggest that it be built. J. R. Fitch Lt and Sub Asst Comr May 9/67 S.A.C authorized to contract for the completion of said building to an amount not exceeding $400. Millican. Texas. April 30th 1867 I think the planters and freedmen will gladly contribute money and labor to build a good school house. There are at least 900 children within four miles square, and I think that with a sum of about $250.00 to be contributed by the Bureau and a good Teacher, we could have a first-class school in that neighborhood. E. Miller. Capt. and Sub. Asst. Comr. At Millican Mar 12/67 the walls of the house is up size of building 26 x 40 and will be completed in a few days on Col Wilson plantation a school house will be at his expense also 3 other school houses in different localities in this county are now in progress of erection.
