Office of Bureau of Refugees Freedman and abandoned lands for the County of Robeson.
Lumberton August, 17th 1865.

This indenture made and entered into between [[crossed out]] between [[/crossed out]] W.R. Bryant of Robeson Co. of the one part, and Peter Townsend of the other part both of Robeson Co. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the payment of fifty cents in lawful money by the said William R. Bryant, to the said Peter Townsend the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged - the said [[crossed out]] Will. R. Bryant awaits [[/crossed out]] Peter Townsend agrees to take his wife and seven children formerly slaves of said Bryant, and provide for the same by supplying them his wife and children with all the necessaries of life such as food and clothing without any charge or expense to the government of the U. States or any other public authority.
