Office of Bureau of Refugees Freedmen & for Robeson Co.
August 19th, 1865

This indenture made and entered into this 19th day of Aug 1865 between N.A. Thompson of the County of Robeson of the one part and Raef Thompson and David Barnes Freedmen of the other part, witnesseth that for and in consideration of the said N. A. Thompson payeth the aforesaid Raef Thompson 20 bushels of corn for his services from April 1st until this date, the said Raef agrees to leave the premises of the said N.A Thompson and in future shift for himself. And that in consideration of receiving 25 bushels of corn [[strikethrough]]the above[[/strikethrough]] from the said N.A Thompson the above named David Barnes agrees and commits to labor until the close of the year for the said N.A. Thompson, the above 25 bushels [[strikethrough]]from the[[/strikethrough]]  constitutes the full wages of the said Barnes from the first of April until the end of the year with the usual rations of food, clothing, and ordinary medical attendance.
