Office of Bureau of Refugees Freedmen and Abandoned Lands
for Co of Robeson
Lumberton August 24th '65

This indenture made and entered into this 24th day of August 1865- between Mrs. Sally Carlyle of Robeson Co of the one part, and Nancy Carlyle a freedwoman of the other part, witnesseth that for and in consideration of the said Mrs. Sally [[strikethrough]] Townsend [[/strikethrough]] Carlyle giving to the said Viney [[strikethrough]] Townsend [[/strikethrough]] Carlyle her food clothing and medical attention in compensation for the labor of said Viney from April to the last of Dec 1865 when the said Viney agrees for herself and her child to receive the above in full compensation for her work, and to yield to the said Mrs. Sally Carlyle faithful obedience in all lawful orders as she has done in times past. It is distinctly understood that the said Viney will not be thrown, upon the world without some provision being made to supply her immediate wants over and above the compensation above stated,
