Lumberton Aug 30th 1865
This agreement made and entered into this 30th day of Aug, 1865 between Arthur Hedgepeth Planter of Robeson Co, of the one part and Peter Hedgepeth Samuel Hillman Louis Byrd for his wife Maria and daughter Margret, Candice Flay and her 3 Children, and Martha Hedgepeth Freedmen and women of said Co of the other part, witnesseth that the said Arthur Hedgepeth agrees to pay the above named Freedmen and women at the following rates respectively to Peter 50 lbs bacons 1 bush corn, $15 in current money five gall molasses to Samuel Hillman eight dollars in current money and 100 lbs Pork, to Louis Byrd for his wife and daughter, fifteen bush corn and 100 lbs of Pork, to Candice and her 3 children their food clothing and shoes, Martha the same until the end of this year. All the above Freedmen and women are to be furnished food clothing shoes and medical attendance. Peter excepted who leaves immediately and takes the above compensation in full of all demands to date, and they the said Freedmen and women agree on their part to render true and faithful service to their
