Contract for Laborers

This indenture made and entered into on this 16th day of September 1865 between Robert Graham of the County of Robeson and State of North Carolina of the one part and the undersigned freed laborer of the Secon part. Witnesseth that the said laborer has agreed from this date to the 25th day of December 1865 to do all kinds of labores common to the farmes of the Country to work ten hours per day, to do his work faithfully, and to be respectful in his deportment, and he further agrees, that one half of his pay shall be retained by the Said Robert Graham till the end of the year, and the amount so retained shall be forfeited by a violation of this Contract. And he  further agrees that the time lost by idleness or absence with our leave shall not be paid for. and the Said Robert Graham has agreed that he will furnish the Said laborer with comfortable quarters sufficient rations and the amount of money per month which stands affixed his respective name.
