Lumberton N.C. Sep 25th 1865

This Indenture made and entered into this 25th day of Sep A.D. 1865 between John Walker of Robeson Planter of the first part and Marcus M Millan Freed laborer of the other part, Witnesseth, that the above named John Walker agrees covenants and by these presents binds himself to pay to the said Marcus McMillan 15  bush of corn  ten bushes of Potatoes, 100 lbs of Pork, and 5 gall of molasses with food clothing and medical attendance. Said J. Walker further hands himself to treat said labor kindly giving him all the privileges which he enjoyed previous to entering into this contract. And the said Marcus McMillan on his part agrees to receive the above named compensation in full of all demand for his labor from the 25th of April 1865 to June first 1866, to be respectful in his department, obeying all the lawful commands of the said Walker as he had been in the habit of doing when a slave.
