Bureau of Refugees Freedman and Abandoned Lands Head Quarters Sub Dist of Robeson Lumberton Sep 27 1865 This indenture made and entered in to this 27 day in Sept 1865 between James Blount Planter of Robeson Co. of the first part and Joseph Blount Free laborer of the second part. Witnesseth that this above named James Blount agrees covenants and binds himself by these present to pay to the said free laborer 10 bush corn, a fat shoat and to let him have for his own use and benefit every Saturday of each and every week until next Christmas with the usual rations of food clothing and medical attendance and the said free laborer on his part, agrees covenants and binds himself to work faithfully for ten hours each day, to be respectful and obedient in his deportment and to receive the above the above compensation in full of all demands for labor from April 27 to December 25 1865 James Blount Joseph his X mark Blout Approved James Sinclair Agt.
