Lumberton N.C. Sept 24th, 1865

This indenture made and entered into this the 24th day of Sept A.D. 1865 between T.J. Morisey of the first part and the undersigned free laborers of the other part. Witnesseth that the above named T.J. Morisey agrees, covenants and by these present binds himself to compensate the said free laborers for their labor on his plantation until January first 1866 as follows, - to wit - every sev'th day on Saturday of each and every week until January, with twelve whole days as [[strikethrough]] he may [[/strikethrough]] the exigencies of the plantation and the regular carrying on of his work will admit of being given with them consecutively or at intervals, this gives to said Freedmen for their own use and benefit, and he further agrees covenants and binds himself to permit there on the above given days the free use of his woods and lands to cut and appropriate to their own use and benefit hardwood and pinewood for firewood which they may dispose of and apply to their own use and benefit, and also his on terms to carry said firewood to market in the town of Lumberton, he also agrees to furnish said Freedmen with quarters for them
