Gentlemen:
Your letter of the 7th inst., concerning the compote which I have for sale for an estate which I represent, has been received. In going through the papers and effects of the experienced art collector and connoisseur who owned this compote, I found a typewritten statement concerning this ware, which he deemed to be of Henri Deux or Oiron ware. I have caused a number of copies to be stricken off so I might send one to you. Herewith find the same, and photograph of the compote with the lid attached and leather case.

The color of the bas reliefs on the rim of the bowl and on the stem is ivory, I should say, although not an old-yellow ivory. The lid has a number of designs of which part are worked entirely through- sort of arabesques- perhaps, open-work. The main color, aside from the bas reliefs and the flowers, is a sort of bookbinder's brown. There is no design on the interior of the bowl. The lid has the same color on both sides.

As to the price, I wish to state that it has been valued at $5,000.00, which I think is conservative, but in view of the depression I will accept any reasonable offer for the compote.

Thanking you in anticipation for your further word in this behalf, I am

Very truly yours,
Marshall Solberg
