New Orleans 6th Sept 1864

To The President of the Board of Education

Sir
Permit me to make a Statement in relation to a Mrs Caulfield Employed by your Board as a Teacher. She has been living in a House of mine for the last Eight months and for most of the time she has been receiving her regular pay during the whole time she was in my House all she paid me was only $12 50/100 Dollars leaving now a balance due me of nearly One Hundred Dolls She has put me to a great deal of trouble and expense in trying to get her out of the House, and I could only get possession from her, when Captn Wilhelm by order of Gen Sherman forcibly ejected her out, when he found she was an unworthy character, I would therefore take the liberty of asking you if a portion of her salary could not be retained [[strikethrough]] by [[/strikethrough]] each month in order to make her act honestly which she is not inclined to do unless compelled by authority
