Thibodeaux 7th Nov 1864
Lieut. E.W. Wheelock
Sec. Board of Education
New Orleans
Dear Sir
With this, I enclose duplicate of my request to the Pro. Marshal for buildings for school purposes. The brick warehouse named, he gave me authority to take possession of this morning - It is will be called & will make the most comfortable house we yet have, but the floor & windows & doors are gone. The slopes are all good, there should be a petition run across the room, five windows are needed, large ones & two doors, one for the outside & one to go through the petition. The openings are all alike 6 feet by 7 & to give light sufficient, should have large windows. If you can send the doors from the city, I think it would be best, common batten doors. Will you please send the boards for the floor & petition. I will give the dimensions of the room below. It will take but a short time to have the house ready after the materials are received.
Very respectfully
Yr. Obt. Svt.

Transcription Notes:
"The slopes are all good"... unsure if "slopes" is correct. -- symbol next to 20 & 5 at end of letter? I can't decipher it ^ possibly 20th-5th?
