Zama Plantation, Miss. June 17th 1865. General, The bearer, Rev. Wm. Larkin, is a friend, relative & confidant of Gen. Buford, late in command at Helena, Ark. He is a Presbyterian minister of good standing, a teacher of reputation & experience, and a thoroughly loyal citizen, one of the very few, in this section, with whom I could [[?]] commune during the late troubles. He visits New Orleans in pursuit of employment, & I take the liberty of recommending him to your kindness. Congratulating you, General, on the distinguished & successful part you have taken in restoring peace to the country, & hoping that you may long be spared to control our affairs, I have the honor to be, with great esteem & respect, [[?]] I. F. H. Claiborne [[?]] [[?]] County, A.A.A.G.
