I have the honor to present the following tho. but a partial Report of the Div. assigned me knowing your wish to approximate as nearly and quickly as possible to the condition both present and prospective of the Freedmen's children coming within  the limits of Education throughout the State

Parish of East Baton Rouge
No. 1 
School at "Home Colony Taught by Mrs Annie Rah  Assisted by Mrs. Strehler who has resigned tho. your action has not as yet been made known. A well disciplined and rapidly advancing school here numbering in aggregate One hundred and thirty pupils Said school taught in dwelling house

No. 2
School of Sixty Four pupils taught by Mr Mathers (Colonel) just commenced tho. many of them have been taught in primary schools before and a class now
