HELICOPTER AIR SERVICE PROGRAM 489

the CAB proposed the permanency of Los Angeles Airways' helicopter service, and Federal support payments as required.

With a population of 455,488, the greater Anaheim area is fully entitled to the services of a permanently certified air carrier.

Through 1964, the Anaheim Heliport has boarded 181,146 passengers, over 2 million pounds of air mail, and over 1 million pounds of air express.

In addition, through 1964, Los Angeles Airways has carried 161,301 passengers into the Anaheim Heliport, plus over 1 millions pounds of air mail and almost 2,000 pounds of air express.

Los Angeles Airways' helicopter service is not a luxury commuter service or a between-airport shuttle service, but it is a vitally necessary part of the national air transportation system-carrying hundreds of thousands of people out of Orange County for connections with the world's airlines via Los Angeles International Airport for other points in California, to all airline points in the United States and to many worldwide points. Of equal importance, industry and other air travelers now have direct access by air directly through to Anaheim from every other airline point in the United States, and the world.

Anaheim, one of the fastest growth cities in the United States, is completely reliant on Los Angeles Airways helicopters for air transportation-not only for passengers, but also for airmail and air express.

Millions of dollars have been spent in locating industry plants, etc., contiguous to Los Angeles Airways' routes. Los Angeles Airways' helicopter service must be continued as a necessary part of Anaheim's and the Nation's air transport system, and we strongly urge the expansion of such service for Anaheim, for Orange County and for all of southern California.

Very truly yours,
                    KEITH A. MURDOCH,
                   City Manager, City of Anaheim.

                               March 3, 1965.

Hon. A.S. MONRONEY,
Chairman, Aviation Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Commerce, New Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.

DEAR SENATOR MONRONEY: This is in reference to the hearings being held by the Aviation Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Commerce on whether the Government should continue, expand, or limit the federally supported helicopter air service program.

At its meeting on March 2, 1965, on motion of Supervisor Warren Dorn, the board of supervisors of the county of Los Angeles adopted an order unanimously supporting the Los Angeles Airways' application for permanency of its certificate of public convenience and necessity before the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB order E21798, docket 15683), and urging the continuance of subisdy [[subsidy]] for the helicopter operation throughout the United States until 1970.

The board further ordered that copies of this motion be sent to you, Senators Thomas Kuchel and George Murphy, and the Los Angeles County congressional delegation.

       Very truly yours,
                            GORDON T. NESVIG.
