490 HELICOPTER AIR SERVICE PROGRAM

SEATTLE, WASH.,
March 2, 1965.

Re CAB docket 15683.

Senator A. S. MIKE MONRONEY,
Chairman, Aviation Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Commerce, New Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.:

The Boeing Co. desires to submit a statement for the record regarding the subject hearing. Los Angeles Airways has greatly added to the operating efficiency of the Boeing Co. in providing helicopter service between Los Angeles International Airport and San Bernardino, Calif. The Boeing Co. has averaged approximately 100 passengers per month in both directions on the above route, all of them engaged in some aspect of the company's defense activities. Travel time is about one-fifth the time as compared to surface transportation and it is substantially lower in cost than car rental, which would be the alternate mode of transportation.

E. D. OESTREICH, Travel Supervisor.

Senator MIKE MONRONEY,
Aviation Subcommittee, Senate Committee on Commerce, New Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.:

The Executive Committee of Orange County Associated Chambers of Commerce feels strongly that helicopter service from various forts within Orange County to Los Angeles is absolutely essential for passenger, mail, and freight transportation to and from this area. We will appreciate your committee's favorable consideration of support which will insure permanent franchise or franchises to assure continuation and a possible expansion of such service.

Subject: Federal support for helicopter air service.
Senator A. S. Mike Monroney,
Chairman, Aviation Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Commerce, New Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.

Senator Monroney: Please be advised that we consider the Los Angeles Airways Helicopter Service to be extremely important in our daily activities in the production of satellite systems for various space programs of the U.S. Government. In view of the fact that Los Angeles has no other means of rapid transportation, we find that the helicopter service is the only modern and efficient method of transportation available in many instances and request that you and committee do everything possible to continue the Government's present support of the helicopter air service program.

Respectfully,
R. H. ROBERTS,
Secretary-Treasury, Sterer Engineering & Manufacturing Co.
