The present airport system will be discussed and a brief history and description given of the physical characteristics and features of Chicago-O'Hare International Airport, Chicago Midway Airport and Merrill C. Meigs Field. 

The function of the present airport system and the role of each airport will be considered. The type and volume of activity will be described.

The planned development potential of the system will be discussed in relation to the air traffic forecasts up to 1980 and the estimated airport requirements for Chicago at this time, with a view to estimating the new facilities that will be needed. The plans for this development will be described.
