Stoughton May 20th, 1947

Dear Doris

We are having a May storm, although Monday came out very pleasant but as rain never since. very gloomy weather & it's to continue all the week so the radio says. I was glad my lawn was mowed. 3 boys came here to do the job & the constant rains had made the front yard look neglected & asked to do it in a fortnight's time again so now, there's not that to worry me.

I am here by my lonesome she has gone to Brocton to meet a party from out of town.then she will do a little shopping before they get their dinner there in town. it's growing a little lighter & the sun may come out. the report doesn't always hit it right. I don't feel hungry, I have only to warm up some beans for my dinner, we had a roast of veal for our Sundays dinner, expecting Doris to be here but she didn't come. I have no appetite for meat of any kind & don't care much for vegetables. towards night I feel hungry.

Blanche Hammond came Sunday to see us, she gets lonesome since her daughter died. she has 2 little grandchildren, her daughter Virginia married a brother of Johnie Woods wife, they had plenty
