Stoughton March 6th 1949

Dear Doris

Cloudy but warm snow is almost gone the last two sunny days made great havoc with it. a few sprinkles on the window, looks like rain. she has just gone off to church.

I am writing my letter up in my front chamber, there is not much to write about. Irene Swanson & her son Roger have just returned. have been on a visit up to her mothers in New Hampshire. she has a most unhappy home, a drunken Husband & two grown up sons. one married they all live on her & dont any of them work. I guess she was glad to leave them. she works all around doing house work for different families here in town. gets all tired out.

Elizabeth Southworth says she hasn't seen Mrs Barry for ages. she wants her to come there to play cards so some afternoon this week, she is going over Friday I think it will be if pleasant.

The Ballantines have also tried to get her over there to visit them. I think they were getting ready to come here my birthday but the Colders got there just in time to prevent them. they are very much pleased with their new place of residence. the Rings live not very far away from them. Gertrude made me a very nice present of a big box of expensive writing paper. coming
