(Theo and Bobby start making rhythmic scat sounds with their lips as they dance around the floor.)——Come on, Pop, show us how you use to cut one of them things!

BOBBY
(Dancing.) This is how he did it!

THEO
Nawwww, that's not it. He did it like this!

MR. PARKER
(Rising.) No, no! Neither of you got it! Speed up that riff a little bit.. (the two boys speed up the riff, singing, stomping their feet, clapping their hands. Humped over, Mr. Parker looks down on the floor concentrating.) Faster! (They speed it up more.)

THEO
Come on now, Pop--let 'er loose!

MR. PARKER
Give me time...

BOBBY
Let that man have some time!

(Mr. Parker breaks into his dance.)

THEO
Come on, Pop, take it with you!

BOBBY
Work, Pop!

(Mr. Parker does a coasting "camel walk.")

BOBBY
NOW BRING IT ON BACK UPTOWN!

(Mr. Parker really breaks loose: a rapid series of complicated dance steps.)

THEO
YEAHHHHHHH! 

BOBBY
That's what I'm talkin' about!

(Adele enters, stops at the entrance to the shop, observes the scene, bemused. Parker, glimpsing her first, in one motion abruptly stops dancing and reaches for the broom. Bobby looks for something to busy himself with. Theo stares.

ADELE
Supper's ready, fellows!

CURTAIN
