MR. PARKER
Here you go. (Hands her the drink.) Toujours l'amour!

GIRL
(Gasping from the drink.) What the fuck is this! What is this, Russell?

MR. PARKER
(Patting her on the back.) Knocks the tail off of you, don't it! But it gets smoother after the second swallow... Go on, drink up!

GIRL
Okay. (Tries it again and scowls. Moves away as he sits on bed.)

MR. PARKER
Now, did you think about what I asked you last night?

GIRL
About getting married?

MR. PARKER
Yes.

GIRL
Why do you want to marry me, Russell?

MR. PARKER
Because I love you, and I think you could make me happy.

GIRL
Well, I don't believe you. When I asked you a question about your business, you deliberately ignored me. It was like you didn't trust me, and I thought that love and trust went together.

MR. PARKER
I'm not so sure about that. My son Theo, I'm wild about him, but I wouldn't trust him no farther 'n I could throw a building.

GIRL
I'm not your son!

MR. PARKER
What is it you wanta know?

GIRL
Where you gettin' all that money from?

MR. PARKER
Oh, that. That's not for a girl to know. Baby doll.

GIRL
Then it's time for me to go. I'm not gettin' myself hooked up with no mystery man! (Moves as if to leave. PARKER stops her, then pauses for a moment.)

MR. PARKER
All right, I'll tell you. I'm partners in a big business, which I'm the president of.

GIRL
Partners with who, Russell?

MR. PARKER
That's not important, baby.

GIRL
Partners with who, Russell.

MR. PARKER
Mr. Blue Haven.

GIRL
Blue Haven! Then it's crooked business.

MR. PARKER
Oh, no baby, it's nothing like that. It's real straight.

GIRL
What does that mean?

MR. PARKER
That what we're doing is right!

GIRL
Tell me about it, then.
