dollars in my pocket, Ain't that it?

MR.JENKINS
I don't know... Goodnight, Parker. (Starts out.)

MR.PARKER
(Grabs his arms.) You think a man in that room with my girl?

MR.JENKINS
Yes!

MR.PARKER
Goddamnnit! Goddamnit!

MR.JENKINS
Russell——

MR.PARKER
I don't believe it! When I love 'em, they stay loved!

MR.JENKINS
Nobody's got that much love, man!

MR.PARKER
(Pause.)

No, no——you're wrong. My wife——my dear Doris had more love in her than life should've allowed. A hundred men couldn't have taken all that love.

MR.JENKINS
We ain't talking about Doris, Russell.

MR.PARKER
Aw, forget it! (crossing toward table.) Goddamnit! You stumble around like an old black cow and you never get up again ...

I have had my fun! 5-1/2
If I don't get well no more!
I have had my fun!
If I-

(PARKER falls down.) Get up , old bastard! Get up!
(Rises to his feet, aided by JENKINS.) Get up and fall back down again. Come on, Mister Jenkins, let's play

ourselves a game of checkers.

MR.JENKINS
I don't want to play no damn checkers.

MR.PARKERS
Why do you curse my home, Mister Jenkins?

MR.JENKINS
(Pause.)

I apologize for that.

MR.PARKER
Come on, have a game of checkers with your good friend. (Sits at table.)

MR.JENKINS
(Moves to the table.) All right, one game and then I'm going home.

MR.PARKER
One game.

MR.PARKER
(Pausing while JENKINS sits down.) I said a lot of dirty things to my children tonight——the kind of things you have to live along time to overcome.

MR.JENKINS
I know exactly what you mean. (JENKINS sets up jumps for PARKER. PARKER seems unaware of it. They play briefly. PARKER stops.)

MR.PARKER
Theo is a good boy, and a smart one too, but he lets people push him around. That's because he's always trying to con somebody out of something——you know the kind: can't see for looking. And Bobby? He wouldn't hurt a flea. A lot of people think that boy is dumb, but just let somebody try to trick or fool him if they dare! (Begins a series of checker jumps.)

(Pause.)

Got a story for you.
