Articles of Agreement
entered into the 8" day of December 1866, by and between Sam'l A Hunt of the first part and Morris Downey (formerly Frazier) of the second part:
Witnesseth that the said Sam'l A Hunt agrees to furnish land for a one horse crop, to furnish a horse and feed him, to furnish all necessary tools seed &c. (ie. said Morris Downey is to furnish nothing but labor) and the said Morris Fd is to cultivate such a crop as he may see fit, giving said Sam'l A Hunt one half of all the crop (except the Garden) after it is made; And it is agreed that if the said Morris Fd. furnishes any seed fodder oats or anything of that kind, that he is to take the amount furnished out of said crop in kind before the Division takes place.
And it is further agree that a house shall be furnished to said Morris and be allowed wood free of all charge

Copy of a Contract made on the 22nd day of January 1867, between Doctor Lewis and Hands.

Articles of Agreement between Doctor Lewis and his hands for the year 1867.
Know all men by these presents that Dr. Willis Lewis has agreed with the following persons Freedmen of color to work said Lewis's farm for the year 1867. To wit: Henry Hall & his son Isaac, Hamilton Greenwood, Henry Lewis, Ned Marrow, Charles Lewis, Macajor Thorp Madison Royster, Jack Robertson, William Lewis, John Davis.

 
I  Dr Lewis binds himself to board the above named hands at the rate of a peck of meal and two (2 1/2) = one half pounds of meat per week and they to clothe and fee the rest of their families.


II  Dr Lewis binds himself to furnish land horses, feed for horses, tools [[crossed out]] and [[/crossed out]] at his (Lewis) expense, to pay black-smith account.
 
III  Each hand will be held responsible for the tools given him to work with, if broken in Lewis's Service he is to return said tools in person and be repaired at Lewis's expense, but if broken or lost in any other way, then the hand to whom it was given shall have it repaired or buy a new on in its place.
 
IV  The hands agree to work on the following terms. Dr Lewis is to furnish each Family with a house and Garden and fire-wood for which they agree to do all extra duty that is usually required on a Farm.
