Copy of Contract made in the 1" day of April, 1867

Memorandum of agreement made & enlisted into this first day of April 1867 between William A Green and Jim Alston Freedman witnesseth that the said Jim Alston is to labor with the said William A Green at his farm in Granville County for the year 1867 until the e" of Jan'y 1868 and to feed himself, he is to work in the Crop and attend to all farm duties, in caring for stock & keeping up fences & providing wood & giving the usual attindance of farm labors about the premises. He also agrees that his wife Sarah and his two children Luttesloh & Roxana shall perform duties of servants in the family, such as such servants usually perform, of cooking washing and general attendance of work about the house & premises, that Work he and his family shall be orderly & attentive to their duties & polite. For the consideration of these services so to be rendered by said Jim Alston & his family the said William Greene agrees to furnish the horses land & loots & everything necessary for [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] making the crop, except the labor and also agree to feed the said Sarah and Luttesloh & Roxana & also he agree to allow the said Sarah time enough to make & mend the clothes for herself & children & the said William A Green is to divide the Crop made by the said Jim Alston in two shares & the said William A Green is to have one share & the said Jim Alston is to have one share. This Contract is the same as one made this day with Dick Alston who is to work also with WA Green & is to use the same home, & if the Crop is made together & then divided the said Jim is then to get one fourth of the whole Crop.
It is understood that of the

said Jim Alston should leave without-Cause then he is to forfeit his share of the Crop. WA Green also agrees that Jim shall have a garden patch & raise a pig & some chickens.
