(Memorandum of an agreement made and entered into this fifth day of February A.D. one thousand eight hundred sixty five by and between the Board of Education for Freedmen, whereof Rush B. Plumley is President and E M. Wheelocks in Secretary of the first part and Dennis Burrell and William Thompson freedmen of the second part Witnesseth. That in consideration of a sum herein after mentioned the Board of Education of the first part do lease to the said Dennis Burrell and William Thompson of the second pass, a track of land in the Parish of St. John Baptist with the out buildings thereon known as the Chenal Place, now held by the said Board of Education under seizure; the dwelling house and kitchen being reserved by the said Board of Education for the use of a school. The track of land thus leased being thirty-five acres, more or less.
The said Burrell and Thompson of the second part do bind themselves to maintain in good order as found, the buildings fences and drainage of said place, to activate in the less possible manner cotton or
