Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Lands,
Office of Superintendent of Education,
Raleigh, N.C., May 23, 1868.

Lieut. Jno. M. Foote.
A.S.A. Comr. B.R.F. & A-L. Plymouth N.C.

Lieutenant,
Yours of the 19th inst. is at hand. I have made repeated efforts to procure a teacher for the school at Jamesville but, I regret to say, without success. I fear that I cannot obtain one and think that you had better not depend upon me for one. If you will send me on a paper by itself, so that I can use it officially, a formal petition for a monthly rental of $10.00 commencing May 1st, in favor of the Freedn's school at Coleraine, it will undoubtedly be granted.

Yours respectfully
F.A. Fiske.
Supt. of Education.
