Their conduct was bad and our other hands, condemns them for so doing and did at the time, [[strikethrough]]about 2 o'clock [[/strikethrough]] Hon John Pool arrived here about 3 o'clock the Same Evening on the Steamer Ella he also condemned their course. for Proof I herewith hand you a Letter written & handed me by him.

We now ask of you to authorize any Man of justice or a court of investigation and their decision we will be governed by.  we will leave the Matter to the decision of Hon John Pool or Jas W. Beasly the republican candidate in this and Hertford counties for the Senate [[seat?]] we would prefer Leaving it to you, we further want you to decide the Matter upon the Statement of our other hands.  They owe us a large portion of their wages for Money advanced & fishing clothes.
