in the Air Race Classic (also a transcontinental race), the New England Air Race, and the Garden State 300. Didn't win any firsts, but did well to finish each time, sometimes under difficult circumstances.

After that first race I wanted to work around airplanes and was employed by Summit Aviation as Director of Public Relations and as an aircraft sales person. And, as soon as I had enough hours I went to work as a Charter Pilot for Summit Aviation. In this capacity I flew to many interesting places. By 1977 I had a multi-engine rating.

In 1980 I completed the Airline Transport course at Flight Safety in Vero Beach, Florida. The next ratings I added were Flight [[strikethrough]] The next ratings I added were Flight [[/strikethrough]] Instructor Instrument, airplane, and multi-engine.

In 1980 I was asked to fly a DC-3 for the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, and also to be Curator of the Museum. I got a type rating in the DC-3 and have been flying the R4D (Navy version of the DC-3) on the air show circuit since 1981. We got this aircraft from the "bone yard" in Arizona and restored it to it's original military configuration when it served the Naval Air Transport Service during World War II. This aircraft [[strikethrough]] won [[/strikethrough]] was awarded Gran Champion Warbird at Oshkosh in 1983, and the year before it was chosen Best Transport.

I also own and fly a USAF 0-1 - a military single engine aircraft that saw service in Korea and Vietnam, which I have restored to its original configuration.

In 1983 and 1984 I was a pilot for a scheduled commuter airline. My routes covered Washington D.C., Richmond, Wilmington, Delaware, Baltimore and Dover AFB. When the airline stopped serving some of these cities, I went back to corporate flying for several companies. I also give instrument flight instruction part time.

Am also an FAA Accident Prevention Counselor. Also a speaker to military pilots at USAF bases. I have flown several military aircraft such as the C5A and F-16. Most of my flying is single pilot IFR in the busy northeast corridor which is very demanding.

I am an aviation writer and have had articles published in a number of military and civilian publications. At present I am working on a book on forward air control to be called "Hit My Smoke".

Debbie - this is written in haste - if you decide to use any of it, please let me see a rough draft. Also, let me know if you want additional photos.

Sincerely,

Jan Churchill
