Still Something Special October 20, 1986

TO: STATE DIRECTORS

I really enjoyed meeting you all in New Mexico and I was just sorry that I didn't get a chance to be able to talk to each one of you on a more personal basis. Since Convention time I have received letters from several State Directors (SD) keeping me informed of what they have accomplished so far. Many have asked for more information on setting up a new unit in order that they can do their job more effectively. A reviced new Unit Kit is being worked on by our 2nd Vice President, Jane Gefvert, and it should be ready before Christmas. The kit gives step by step directions for starting unit progress in your area.

Many SD are already moving ahead in their States and hearing about their successful meetings is wonderful news. Some of these are: Nevada - Virginia Bart, Michigan - Jan Roy, Oklahoma - Dee Bartels and Minnesota - Peggy Hansen. From California, we "Welcome aboard" our newest Unit, "Golden West", from Orange County.

If you have a potential new unit, please make copies of all papers and give the to the proposed President. This way, when you send papers into WAVES National for Charter etc., you won't lose your beginning files! This also goes for the enclosed voucher for expenses - make copies so you'll always have one on hand...

If the new unit which you start in your State is the first one, please consider taking the Presidency for at least six months to get it off to a good start. If there is already a Unit in your State then it would be a conflict of interest for you to become the President of the new unit.

I would suggest that all SD write to Mary Jahn individually and request a printout of all zip codes within 50 miles of your home. This will give you names in your area to personally call or write and set up your first meeting.

Mary Jahn SD Missouri - 104 Windcliffe Drive, Ballwin, MO 63021

If your State has more than one Unit, set up a State meeting in the Spring of 1987. Bring all your Units together for a time of sharing and getting to know each other better. California is beginning plans for such a meeting in the spring.

I encourage all of you to actively participate as State Directors. If you do not feel that you have the time please contact President Anne Anderson so that growth can continue in your area.

An up-dated list of all State Directors will be published in the December issue of "White Caps".

Let us continue to support our President in her goal of 4,000 members and 40 Units by the end of July 1988. We CAN do it - afterall- WE ARE STILL SOMETHING SPECIAL............................!

I am very pleased with the willingness and cooperation that you have all shown. I'm proud to be a member of WAVES National and its apparent you feel the same.

Keep up the good work.

In Navy Love Gloria
