women who enlisted were very different in their expectations of what the military and basic would be like. Patriotism blinded some of the more pragmatic concerns. Once at basic some of the women couldn't take it at all.

-It's hard to imagine the total and complete patriotic feeling (almost a religion) of the time. We thought it was the biggest and most important job in the world to help our country.

-The last time there was a willing and total submission/connivance of the media to the government. You simply did not say or do anything negative or that might harm the war effort.
