RELEASE NO. 12-10-71-791

WAF PINSTRIPE UNIFORM TO BE REPLACED

WASHINGTON (AFNS) - The Women in the Air Force pinstripe cotton/polyester two-piece summer uniform will soon be a thing of the past. Air Force has approved elimination of the uniform to be replaced with the overblouse and blue tropical worsted service skirt combination as the required warm-weather uniform for WAF.

As stock levels of the pinstripes are depleted WAF will be issued two additional overblouses, increasing individual totals to six, and a second and third worsted service skirts. When an acceptable drip-dry fabric is available, the two additional service skirts will be replaced by two drip-dry skirts.

Approval also was granted for development of a liner for wear with the new WAF raincoat. As stocks are exhausted, the WAF overcoat will become an optional clothing item.

Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps male cadets were authorized optional wear of the cotton/polyester short-sleeve shirt with blue trousers as part of the summer uniform when prescribed by the Air Force ROTC commandant.

In other uniform changes, Air Force granted approval for distinctive badges for senior and chief nurses and Junior ROTC instructors.
