Imperial Hotel
50 Remington London
25 Aug 1956.

Dear Ma: Your letter was forwarded to me here from the Glendown Hotel, and I received also a letter from Lena telling of her visit, at the same time as yours did, so the mail came all right. I shall not be receiving much more as we will be leaving a week from today.
We are trying hard now to get in all the last things. no news yet that Sid may get a later flight home. It looks now as if he would be arriving on his birthday or even earlier. Dolores has a birthday the same date, the 31st of August. He should get home at this early flying on the 30th I should think. But maybe at the last moment he can get a plane on the same day we leave or the 5th of Sept. no telling yet. But we sail anyhow Sept 1st and land Sept 8, sometime. I don't know the hour or if we can get home that day from N.Y.
Yesterday I went looking for a winter coat & got one for less than $25 which at home would have cost $50. I haven't had a new coat since 1941 (Feb.) when I bought one after war was declared. Doris got a suit for even less, and a new sweater. These purchases are to be [[crossed-out]] devlir [[/crossed out]] delivered at the boat at Southampton & need no coupons & are at cheaper rates (export rate) than are used for the British. It seems too bad, but that is their way of getting American dollars.
Today I returned to the museum But will meet Doris at 3.30 to look at the Town of London. There are so many things to be seen. Our trip to Devon & Somerset in the west was good. We had a fine day the last one visiting Cheddar (where the Cheddar cheese) a little village at a mountain gorge, then Wells with a beautiful cathedral, and lastly Glastonbury where the thorn tree that blooms in winter is and King Arthur remains were buried neath now ruined old Abbey, then on to Bath and back to London on an express train in less than 3 hours. Think of crossing all England in less than 3 hours! It really is such a tiny island.

Doris.
