Dear Ma: 9 July 1950
This is the throne room of Napoleon. See the golden bees dotting the canopy over the throne. We have spent the day at Fontainbleau & gone all over the huge chateau and spent the P.M. in the park by the lake adjoining. It was here that Napoleon abdicated and the place is famous for earlier Kings and queens and has so many beautiful relics. The park is lovely. I have been attempting to make a little water color of it as we rested after lunching down by the artificial round lake. The lake is full of carp and people gather to feed them. It has turned hot and we have shed our sweaters.
