soldier who is now stationed in Texas, and Joan got an engagement ring on Christmas. It was most astonishing news as the girl is so very young in all ways. In fact she is only getting thru high school this year. She has never been allowed to go out anywhere like other girls and kept right under her mothers nose. I think the young soldier must be a very good Baptist. He lived there as a boarder some time ago.

I finished up and sent off my short paper to Argentina this past week to be published in the Institute of Miguel Lillo at Tucumán. Chapin did up the ms and the 2 drawings himself and sent it by Smithsonian Frank. I think he viewed it as a gesture towards good inter-American relationship. The coleopterist there wrote me that he was sending me material to work up on some groups with which I am familiar. that should be reaching me in a few weeks now.

Sid is scaring off one of the neighborhood dogs, of which we have altogether too many. The mocking bird pair sit out in the wild cherry tree guarding their bread crumbs and raisins against any birds that may venture a bite. It is very sunny, and I am going out to look at my rowses. Are your snow drops beginning to bloom yet?
