Pike Co, Ala Captain, Your letter of the 14th inst is received. Accompanying this communication is a letter to Judge Wiley informing him that if he will receive Winslow as a Military prisoner, not to be admitted to bail, you will turn him over to him. If he declines this, you will bring Winslow to this place. You will start for this place as soon as practicable after receiving this, in this with or without your prisoner as the Judge may decide. Howard Commissioner Freedmens' Bureau Washington, D.C. General I have the honor to request that Captain H.W. Cryderwise and Chaplain S. S. Gardner 73rd U.S.C.T. be transferred to some regiment living in this State 39 in order that I may retain their services, the time of their regiment expiring on the 27th of this month. Maj Sample has been on duty with Gen Harrard at Mobile. Gen Harrard has been relieved by Gen DeRussy who brought with him an Asst Adjt Gen'l. Maj. Sample is now awaiting orders at Mobile.
