Bureau of Refugees Freedmen and Abandoned Lands
Montgomery Ala. Oct 20th 1865

Col Geo. D. Robinson
Supt Freedman
Mobile. Ala

Colonel:
It is very probable that we will be obliged to give up the Medical College. The General wishes you to cause suitable places to be looked up with a view to occupancy when we have to vacate the college so that the schools can be continued without unnecessary delay in finding buildings.
The General started yesterday for Washington. He will be absent two weeks.
Very Respectfully
Your obt servant.

Major:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of papers in the case where Mrs Scott claims certain property and payment in a note executed by J.W. Lakely for $500.
The case is one that should be attended to by this Bureau rather than by the Military authorities proper.

The right of ownership by the man "Sam" in the property mentioned is indisputable, if the circumstances are as stated.
With your permission I will refer the papers to the agent of this Bureau at Selma with instructions to investigate the claim and, if in his opinion this is sufficient grounds to place it in the hands of a competent Attorney for suit.
Inasmuch as we have confidence the adjudication of civil affairs where freedmen are interested to the civil authentication we could not proceed by military process.
Very Respectfully,
Your obt servt.
