In view of the ordinance of yourself and your City Council on a pretext of existing small pox, your appointment as an Agent of the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands is hereby suspended for as long a time as that ordinance or any part of it shall continue in force, and any arrest or other act of jurisdiction by you to which a freedman is a party will be at your peril as in violation of the published order of the President of the United States.

I telegraphed you yesterday that the jurisdiction of the Mayor of Selma in all cases relating to Freedmen had been suspended.
Notify this office if he assumes to exercise any jurisdiction or if any attempt is made to carry out the provisions of the "Ordinance

concerning Freedmen." 
Publish Gen Orders No 129 series of 1865 from War Dept for one week in the Selma papers.
Report as to whether any action is taken in the City Council at their next meeting in relation to the ordinance and whether Col Magee revokes his approval of it. He has been requested to do so.
