Montague Esq Collector &c Mobile, Ala Dear sir, I have to express my obligation for your favor of 26th inst. in relation to three captured blockade runners. I have forwarded the same to Maj Gen Howard with request that he urge the application. I am also obliged by your favor of 18th inst. referring to sale at Selma. I expected the pleasure of meeting you in Mobile not long since, but learned that you were absent at Selma. Rabb Asst Supt Freedman Evergreen, Ala. Sir, By direction of Gen Swayne I forward you an order assigning you to duty as Asst Supt Freedmen for [[C???] I also forward copies of orders. In a short time we shall be able to furnish you some clothing and subsistence. Greenville, Ala Sir; A Freedman named Stephen states that his two children Fanny & Lucy have been apprenticed to one Jno C McQueen who lives about one mile west of Greenville. You will please enquire into the case and ascertain by whom they were apprenticed, and under what regulations, whether by the act passed by the recent Legislature or under the old law that relates to white children. Also ascertain whether these men are natural guardians for the children and any other circumstances connected with the case. Make a report of this at once. Very Respectfully Your Obt Servt A.A.G.
