Col Freydenberg reported the first of the week. If he had a Garrison at Girard I would place him in charge of that District. As it is I shall keep him here till you return.

I suggest that if possible you have about four Lieutenants or Captains from the Veteran Reserve Corps sent here — we need them.

McGogy and Regiment is ordered mustered out. I have requested Col Robinson to send Capt. Thornburg up here. I shall assign him to Greenville. I do not like the condition of affairs under Mr Mostyn.

Col Beecher and Dr Kipp went up to Huntsville the first of the week and will be back tomorrow. The financial and medical condition up there needed attention and I thought it was best that they should attend to them at once.

I received another note from J. Bragg in which he comes down from his lofty position. He states that Gen Woods declines to interfere or take any action in his case.

I sent you Col Edwards' report. It is decidedly brief but he says it was all the information he could obtain.

I also sent you yesterday Gen McArthur's recommendation for his brother and Capt Randall for Postmasters at Selina and Camden.

I had the Apprentice Law published in the Nationalist and sent you a copy. I have sent it to every Probate Judge and Agent of the Bureau.

Mr Cruikshanks is in the City. He reports that the system for supplying rations is working well. I have told him that the civil authorities must commence to make arrangements for the support of their district and that next month the amount of supplies will be materially reduced.

I hope that you will succeed in getting Maj Kinsman assigned and my brother also.

I have not succeeded in finding an officer to assist me in the office and I do not think there is one in the State suitable.

General;
Your comn of the 12th ult relating to the children of Priscilla Fort was referred to Dr Bozeman who is in New York City. Through information obtained from him Alfred Fort was found.

He is working in the City at transient jobs. Cornelia Fort is married to a Jim Walker and is living in Macon Ga.

Lewis and Laura are working on Dr Bozeman's plantation. Lewis lost his left arm two years ago in a sugar mill. I have notified Alfred of his mother's address.
